Two construction workers died in falls on sites in London and Birmingham in successive days last week.
A man in his 30s was killed last Thursday after falling at a Structure Tone site in London’s West End.
Police said the man, believed to be a worker at the site, was pronounced dead at the scene in Mayfair after the incident at the junction of Berkeley Street and Stratton Street.
On Friday, a man died after a fall at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) visited the site yesterday (13 July) after the incident, which occurred on a project involving Dudley-based BSN Group.
Both Structure Tone and BSN Group expressed their deep sadness at the incidents and were cooperating with the relevant authorities.
Falling from height remains the most common cause of fatal injuries in construction – this type of accident accounted for nearly half of deaths (12) for 2025/2026. Other causes were being struck by a moving vehicle or moving objects. Across all industries, falls from height accounted for 31 fatalities, representing around a quarter of worker deaths in the last year.
The overall number of construction workers killed on site halved in the last two years, according to figures released by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) earlier this month.
