Nearly half of young people are now considering a career in the construction and trade sectors, as rising youth unemployment and concerns over job security push more 16- to 25-year-olds towards hands-on skilled work.

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has revealed the winners of this year’s SkillBuild National Final.

More than 1,500 schoolchildren aged between 10 and 18 are receiving a hands-on introduction to trades such as carpentry, bricklaying and welding using virtual reality simulators.

L&Q has launched a new apprenticeship programme, offering placements for 20 aspiring tradespeople – with more positions expected to open later this year.  

DHG Build Solutions is working with Gateshead College to offer work placement for students of construction trades.
