A rogue builder has been jailed for 32 months and fined £136,000 after he left work unsafe and unfinished while demanding increasing payments from his clients.

Prime minister Andy Burnham has pledged to “put cowboy builders out of business” by this month setting up an approved code for builders and a system for drip-feeding payments for construction work.
