Photos | Structural Steel Design Awards 2022 shortlist

A total of 21 projects around the country have made the shortlist of the Structural Steel Design Awards 2022.

The projects selected showcase steel’s sustainability credentials, and its flexibility and versatility in a number of different applications.

The British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) and Trimble Solutions (UK) jointly sponsor the awards. Winners will be announced in London on 29 September.

Among the shortlisted projects are the following:

Inverness Hydro Scheme. River Ness, Inverness, Scotland, UK
Lord’s Cricket Ground, Compton & Edrich Stands Redevelopment

Tower of Light, Manchester

David Moore, chief executive of the BCSA, said: “Structural steelwork is the original sustainable material that can be re-used and recycled time and time again. and still deliver efficient, practical, and flexible spaces that are both beautiful and cost-effective.

“2021/22 has been another challenging year. In the autumn/winter of 2021 and early 2022 it looked like covid-19 was largely under control and the lifting of restrictions would bring the economy back to pre-pandemic levels.

“However, the war in Ukraine resulted in significant increases in energy prices, supply issues for certain construction materials and inflation approaching 10%, but even with these trials the constructional steelwork sector remains buoyant and continues to provide low-carbon, high-quality structures for demanding clients.”
