Stephen Lines, chair of Ethics & Respect for People, one of the SIGs seeking experts to help drive their agenda forward
The CIOB Special Interest Groups relaunched late last year to advance specific areas of knowledge, learning and technology which are key to CIOB policy and education. Since then, each of the six groups has built momentum: recruiting experts and initiating their first projects.
The CIOB had a fantastic response to its call for contributing experts, but covering such a broad range of issue areas there is still space in some groups for further members to join and provide expertise.
Ethics & Respect for People, led by Stephen Lines FCIOB, is looking to recruit members to drive forward specific working groups covering health and wellbeing, modern slavery, ethics and broader professionalism.
Sustainability & Environment, chaired by Dave Hampton FCIOB, is inviting members to further develop CIOB’s input into the Chartered Environmentalist certification, contributing to a Carbon Free Construction Campaign, promoting sustainability innovations and developing related CPD.
Diversity SIG, led by Chris Keast FCIOB, is looking for passionate members to look into the causes and solutions to barriers to employment and career progression for under-represented groups in the industry.
A series of other projects are underway through the other SIGs. Watch this space for:
- The Conservation SIG releasing details for the 2018 Conservation Conference at Somerset House, alongside producing new training and CPD to supplement the CIOB’s Heritage qualification.
- Digital Technologies & Asset Management SIG’s Digital State of the Nation report and resources to signpost construction professionals to innovative technology for their projects.
- Contract & Procurement’s review of the CIOB’s portfolio of contracts and development of new contracts and training to reflect procurement trends.
