Skanska UK has appointed James Davies FCIOB as divisional director to oversee major construction projects in regions, defence and healthcare.
Davies joins from Laing O’Rourke, where he has held the post of operations leader since November 2022.
His over two-decade career in construction includes a three-year stint at ISG, where he was director of major science and health projects, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Skanska said Davies will play a “pivotal role” overseeing key construction projects regionally within the UK and leading strategic emphasis within the defence and healthcare sectors, which are key markets the contractor is targeting.
He will report directly to Skanska’s executive vice-president, Terry Muckian.
Strong UK legacy
Davies said: “Skanska has a strong legacy in the UK, having delivered significant projects across the commercial sector as well as critical national infrastructure.
“The company’s culture, international reach, and the variety of projects currently underway is exciting, and I’m eager to get started. I also look forward to building strong relationships with our supply chain and customers, working closely with teams across the UK business to create new opportunities for growth.”
Muckian added: “James brings a wealth of experience and strategic vision that aligns perfectly with our ambitions. His proactive approach, customer focus and deep sector knowledge will be invaluable as we continue to solidify Skanska’s leadership position in these dynamic markets. We are pleased to welcome James to our team and look forward to seeing his impact on our strategy.”
Skanska is delivering major projects within the defence market, including the Vehicle Storage and Support Programme for the British Army at Ashchurch in Gloucestershire.
The business is also pursuing opportunities within healthcare as well as growing its regional presence, such as with the Botanic Place development in Cambridge.
Davies will begin his role on 1 September.
