Edgbaston Stadium has appointed Sisk to construct the next stage of its masterplan development.
Backed in part by a £17.3m investment from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), the £46m project will involve the redevelopment of the Raglan and Priory stands.
They will be transformed into a new 3,200-seat stand, while a Radisson RED hotel with pitch-facing rooms will be delivered alongside hospitality boxes.
The hotel development is projected to increase Edgbaston’s local community contribution to £40m per year, rising to more than £70m during a Cricket World Cup year.
Sisk has already completed the initial demolition process of the Raglan and Priory stands and has prepared the groundwork.
Main construction work has now begun, and the project is expected to be completed in time for the Men’s Ashes in summer 2027.
Construction careers
The announcement of the contract coincides with Build UK’s annual Open Doors event (23-28 March). The initiative aims to engage visitors and students with behind-the-scenes access to live construction sites across the UK.
As the lead venue for the 2026 initiative, Edgbaston Stadium joins more than 240 construction workplaces across the UK that have opened their doors to the next generation of construction workers.
Sisk has committed to hiring 36 local people, including graduates, apprentices and work placement candidates, for the entire build stage of the stadium development.
Paul Brown, CEO at Sisk and chair of Build UK, said: “We are proud to be selected as main contractor as part of the Edgbaston masterplan and to continue growing our footprint in the West Midlands.
“As chair of Build UK, it is a pleasure to launch Open Doors 2026 at Edgbaston Stadium. Open Doors is a key initiative to try to influence younger audiences to consider a career in our sector.
“Projects of this profile are a great way to demonstrate the opportunities that exist within the construction industry.”
