Skanska UK has promoted Steve Halbrook to managing director of its London commercial building business.
Halbrook has been with the company for 21 years, and takes up the post following the resignation of his predecessor, Paul Heather, who quit Skanska to join Sir Robert McAlpine to head up its London and south-east business.
Holbrook originally joined Skanska as a sponsored student of commercial management in 1995.
He is promoted from his position as commercial director and will become a member of Skanska’s senior management team.
Heather is the second high-profile building director at Skanska to announce he is leaving in the last few weeks. His boss Paul Chandler is stepping down from his position as UK building chief at the end of the year and is rumoured to be joining Wates.
Elsewhere at Wates, group managing director of construction Dave Smith is stepping down from the company after 32 years.
It is believed Smith will step down from his current role immediately and leave the firm officially on 31 December.
Smith joined Wates in 1985 and went on to become chief operating officer and group managing director of the construction group.
Wates has begun the search for a successor and chief executive Andrew Davies will take over Smith’s duties in the interim.
