A 17-year-old man has died after spending several days in a critical condition in hospital following an accident at a Laing O’Rourke in Liverpool last week.
The death of the 17-year-old, who has not been named, comes after a 53-year-old man died at the scene on Chapel Street on 19 May.
The two men were found seriously injured on the site at Chapel Street after falling, with reports suggesting that they had been involved in the collapse of a mast climber or construction hoist.
Merseyside Police said that 17-year-old’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Meanwhile an investigation is being carried out by detectives and the Health and Safety Executive.
In a statement, Laing O’Rourke said: “We can confirm there was an incident at the Unity Building on Wednesday afternoon in which two men were seriously injured. Tragically, one of the men died at the scene and the second is in a critical condition in hospital. Our Health and Safety team is at the site and we and our subcontractors will cooperate fully with the investigation into what happened. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the men at this extremely difficult time.”
Laing O’Rourke has been carrying out waterproofing works at the Unity building, which is made up of two towers of 27 and 16 storeys respectively.
