Wicona’s high-performance aluminium curtain walling will form a robust weathertight seal around a new polar research station in Antarctica. Designed by German architect Bof Architekten, the station will comprise 134 prefabricated units, wrapped in the specially adapted WICTEC 50 “stick” curtain walling system able to withstand winds of up to 270km/h, abnormally high mechanical loads caused by snow and temperatures of -40°C and below. www.wicona.co.uk

Aquapanel Exterior is a non-combustible cement building panel embedded with a coated glass fibre mesh on the back and front surfaces to create a water-resistant surface with no swelling or loss of stability. The panels, manufactured by Knauf Drywall, provide the benefits of a dry panel system with the strength of brick and block. They are unaffected by the freeze-thaw cycle and do not require specialist installation — simply score and snap into position. www.knaufdrywall.co.uk
