The Prince of Wales has announced plans to build 24 homes to provide temporary accommodation for people experiencing homelessness in Nansledan, Cornwall.
Homewards, a five-year initiative led by The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales that aims to end homelessness, said the land for the homes will be provided by the Duchy of Cornwall.
The project will be delivered in association with Cornish homeless charity St Petrocs and local organisations.
Homewards said the Duchy of Cornwall will use “its design and development management expertise” for the delivery of the project.
It is estimated that more than 300,000 people in the UK – nearly half of whom are children – are sofa surfing, sleeping on the streets, staying in hostels, living in their cars or other forms of temporary accomodation.
The development of the project is set to begin in September 2024 and the first homes are due to complete in autumn 2025.
