Plans are set to be submitted for a new tower in Liverpool which, at 48 storeys, will be the city’s tallest.
Designed by architect Hodder+Partners, the proposed Ovatus 2 residential tower, on the edge of the city’s commercial district, is part of a scheme that also includes a sister tower, the 27-storey Ovatus 1.
Plans were submitted for Ovatus 1 last December with work set to start on site this April, subject to approval.
Plans for Ovatus 2 are set to be submitted shortly – although no firm date has yet been given. It would be eight storeys higher than the Liverpool’s current tallest building, West Tower, which was completed 10 years ago.
The towers are a joint venture between investment firm Prospect Capital and financial advisory business Wilcocks & Wilcocks.
Ovatus 2 will consist of 530 apartments while Ovatus 1 will feature 168 homes. Indigo Planning is advising on both towers.
The development site for both towers sits within the buffer zone boundary of Liverpool’s World Heritage Site and is located less than half a mile from the Prince’s Dock, which backs onto the waterfront of the river Mersey.
Craig Blackwell, managing director of Prospect Capital, said: “Following on from our Ovatus 1 application at the same site in Liverpool we feel that Ovatus 2 not only complements the original tower but also makes a big statement as to where the market in Liverpool is now moving.
“We will be working with exactly the same team on both towers and are excited to be part of what will be the tallest building in Liverpool.”
