Wilson James has won an enhanced role as Heathrow’s Logistics Integrator
Peter Jacobs, former managing director of Morgan Sindall’s London and airports division and the immediate past president of the CIOB, has been appointed as a non-executive board director of logistics and security specialist Wilson James.
Jacobs previously spent 24 years at Bovis Lend Lease, where he was a director for 10 years and headed up the team behind the London 2012 Athletes’ Village.
Wilson James recently won an enhanced role as Heathrow’s Logistics Integrator, to support the airport’s £1.5bn development programme. The firm has been involved at Heathrow since 2008.
Jacobs said: “I am delighted to join Wilson James as a non-executive director. Logistics has always been critical to the successful delivery of complex construction projects. The increasing impact of BIM and offsite fabrication in the industry will provide an opportunity to increase productivity on site, but only if there is innovative logistical support. Wilson James is a market leader in logistics and security and I look forward to working with the team to develop safe, sustainable and efficient solutions for our clients.”

The five-year contract with Heathrow Airport commenced in July and covers the provision of construction logistics for development programme.
The HLI contract includes the strategic planning and the operation of Colnbrook Logistics Centre (CLC), the logistics and screening centre for construction activities at Heathrow.
As construction projects at the UK’s busiest airport share site access with the airport operations the CLC provides an offsite location to store and call off construction materials on behalf of contractors, carry out vehicle checks and coordinate traffic management and deliveries for the airport.
In addition, Wilson James will have an operational support role managing the storage and logistics management of Heathrow’s unique stock of engineering materials which can be requested by the airport operations team at any time, for delivery to over 30 locations across the Heathrow campus.
Wilson James will use its online Fulcrum IT system for construction delivery management, which provide real-time and web-based data access and reporting.
