Pan-industry body the Construction Industry Council has set out a new business structure designed to provide more focus to activities and give the members greater say on its priorities.
The new CIC strategy comes after a year-long strategic review of the organisation, facilitated by Richard Brindley, former RIBA executive director, and led by out-going chair Tony Burton, with support from new chair John Nolan, CIC chief executive Graham Watts and CIC staff members.
Burton, senior partner at Gardiner & Theobald, said the organisation was changing the way it operates so that it is clearly set out what activities are funded from subscriptions and commercial activities so members can more easily come together to set out priorities for issues that effect the wider industry. “After 25 years it’s time for CIC version two,” he said.
Incoming CIC chairman John Nolan commented: “The challenges and opportunities for the industry going forward are manifold and complex. With these strategic priorities we will be able to focus our resources on how best to support our members.”
Richard Brindley, former RIBA executive director, added: “Brexit is no doubt a great challenge to the UK construction industry and BE professions, but it is also an opportunity for the CIC to bring together the collective voice of all our members and demonstrate some real thought leadership.
“So this strategic review is very timely – the CIC will now have a more effective and focused mechanism to achieve it.”
