Two CIOB Midlands Novus members were shortlisted for the inaugural Midlands G4C Awards.
Generation 4 Change (G4C) focuses on showcasing young talent in the industry. The Awards were created to celebrate achievements of young people and an event to announce winners was held in Birmingham in November.
Verity Kelly, a final year construction project management student at Aston University, was shortlisted for both the Student of the Year and Trainee of the Year. While at university she completed three work placements with Shaylor Group, Mace Group and Morgan Sindall.
“Since starting on site at 19 I really enjoyed the working environment and haven’t looked back since. I am currently looking for graduate opportunities for quantity surveying roles,” said Kelly.
Her lecturer Gayan Wedawatta explained why she was nominated. “Verity richly deserves this nomination not only because of outstanding performance both at the university and during her placement year, but also because of her active role in the CIOB Novus committee benefitting fellow students and young construction professionals in West Midlands.
“Verity already is a great role model for aspiring students and young professionals.”
Cameron MacKenzie is in his final year at Loughborough University studying architectural engineering and design management.
“I was shortlisted for Student of the Year for extra-curricular activities, volunteering, academic excellence and industry experience,” he said. “This included becoming programme president of my department, founding a society in my first year and serving as chair to date, as well as achieving a first class grade last academic year.
“Over two summers, I have worked for Kier as an assistant design manager in Cambridge where I have gained some important industry insight and contributed to projects.
“I feel elated to have been shortlisted! It is brilliant to be recognised for the effort I have been putting in,” MacKenzie said.
