Multiplex has become the third contractor to be selected to build the £1bn mixed-used complex at Nine Elms near Vauxhall for the Chinese developer Dalian Wanda Group.
Multiplex has been awarded the project after two previous bidders pulled out of building the two skyscrapers of 42 and 58 storeys. The 1.14m sq ft One Nine Elms development will provide 437 homes.
Interserve was originally selected to deliver the scheme with its joint venture partner China State Construction Engineering Corporation before abandoning the project in April.
Balfour Beatty then beat Multiplex on the project rebid, but also stepped away two months ago after failing to agree the contract price.
Tim Gawthorn, director at Wanda One (UK), said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Multiplex as our main contractor for the delivery of One Nine Elms, which on completion will create 437 high-quality residential apartments, a five-star Wanda Vista hotel, world-class amenities and public spaces for the community to enjoy.
“Following the EU Referendum, this important announcement further demonstrates our commitment to deliver an iconic mixed-use development in the heart of London.”
Ashley Muldoon, CEO at Multiplex for Europe, Middle East, and Canada, said: “We are delighted to be working with Wanda globally, supporting them to deliver in Australia – and now in the UK on this prestigious project.”
