Two specialist contractors – offsite modular construction specialist McAvoy Group and fire protection design and installation company Angus Fire – have both secured BIM certification from BRE under different schemes.
McAvoy Group believes it is the first offsite modular construction provider to gain certification as PAS 1192-2:2013 compliant from BRE’s BIM Level 2 Business Systems Certification scheme.
And two design engineers at Argus Fire, based in Stourbridge, west Midlands, have been awarded Certified Level 2 Professional BIM status after passing the BRE Academy’s BIM training course to become certified professionals.

The two companies’ announcements means that they have evidenced their capacity to meet the government’s new BIM Level 2 requirements for centrally procured construction projects that came into effect on 4 April.
McAvoy has been an early adopter of BIM, according to its design manager, David Clark: “Our specialist design teams have been using BIM software to develop virtual models of our building spaces and construction processes, thereby providing our clients with a full understanding of their building concept as the design progresses, since April 2006.
“Becoming the first offsite modular company in the UK to achieve this certification reinforces our position as a leading provider of construction services within the education, health, leisure/accommodation and commercial/infrastructure sectors.”
As part of its BIM strategy, McAvoy says that it is also committed to integrating its subcontractor training programme with its internal training programme.
Operating from two manufacturing facilities, McAvoy has delivered more than 3 million sq m of modular accommodation for the education, health, commercial, infrastructure and hospitality sectors in the UK and Ireland.
Argus Fire has been producing 3D modelling solutions for large office projects for the past three years, but has been developing its capability over the past 13 years.
