Following the catastrophic collapse of Carillion, the CIOB is reminding members that those affected can seek help and support through the CIOB Benevolent fund.
With as many as 20,000 people employed by Carillion, the liquidation of the company will have devastating effects, both directly and indirectly, on many CIOB members and their families.
Speaking this week, Terry Watts, managing director at the CIOB, reminded members that the aim of the CIOB is not just to support members’ development of skills and knowledge but also their welfare and care.
He explained: “It was for situations like this that we set up our Benevolent Fund in 1992. Our fund secretary, Frank MacDonald, is a trained counsellor who offers advice on issues ranging from career development to employee rights and benefits.
“The fund itself has been created from the generosity of our members, allowing us to offer this unique resource to our members across the world.”
He added: “So if you’re struggling at work or at home, please don’t stay silent. We are here to help. Both as an organisation and as a community of colleagues who want to see you continue your career in construction with passion and determination.”
Grants from the fund can be issued for a range of reasons, including: helping with general household costs; enabling essential travel to work and supporting children and spouses.
All financial assistance is overseen by an independent board of trustees and cases are handled swiftly, sensitively and in the strictest confidence.
If you need help and support, please contact Frank MacDonald on 01344 630780 or email [email protected].
