A training company has launched a digital learning platform aimed at increasing the industry’s understanding of fire doors.

UK Fire Door Training’s Fire Door Anatomy site includes interactive 3D models with extensive technical learning content, an exploded fire door assembly, an educational fire test simulation and knowledge checks.

Users can explore 10 common fire and escape door components, rotate and dismantle the assembly and examine the internal workings of a door closer. They can also access technical information covering function, materials, specification, relevant standards, common defects and inspection considerations.

The platform also includes an educational fire test simulation where users can configure a specimen, introduce faults and explore their potential consequences. Scenarios include oversized gaps, unsuitable glazing and missing intumescent protection around a lock.

Making technical material easier to explore

Two consultancies reviewed the site’s technical content, and user input and feedback were also recorded.

UK Fire Door Training managing director Jonny Millard said: “Fire doors are physical systems, but much of the learning around them is still delivered through flat images, slides, diagrams and pdfs. Those formats still have an important place, but they shouldn’t define the limit of what fire safety education can be.

“Fire Door Anatomy is designed to make technical information easier to explore without sacrificing depth. We’ve also made the whole resource free because we want useful fire door knowledge to travel as widely as possible.”

The resource is available here anatomy.ukfiredoortraining.com
