A worldwide search for construction professionals who have progressed innovation and excellence in their fields is to be launched under a new international awards scheme run by the CIOB.
Later this month, the Institute will call on construction employers, clients and sponsors to nominate individuals who have achieved levels of success that far exceed expectations.
The awards complement the established Construction Manager of the Year Award and Innovation and Research Awards, but provide a platform for the majority of members whose roles lie outside these areas.
As with CMYA, entries are encouraged from both CIOB members and non-members. Non-members who reach the final can directly apply for CIOB membership (MCIOB).
The rigorous judging process will involve face-to-face interviews for shortlisted candidates or interviews via video conferencing.
Candidates are being sought in nine different categories, with the winners in each group then competing for the title of “Outstanding Achiever 2014”.
The nine categories are
- Procurement and Supply Chain Management
- Building Standards’ Management
- Design Management
- Facilities Management
- Health & Safety Management
- People Management
- Conservation & Adaptation Management
- Business Management
- Young Achiever Award
The new awards scheme builds on the successful awards event run in 2011 by CIOB and the Olympic Delivery Authority, which highlighted individuals who had made a significant contribution to the successful delivery of Olympic projects. The CIOB chairman’s medal was won by Kevin McLoughlin of K&M Decorating for his commitment to providing training and learning opportunities.
Describing the International Outstanding Achievement Awards, a CIOB statement said: “Construction is the beating heart of society – creating both the essential and inspirational structures a nation’s well-being and prosperity is judged on.
“The CIOB International Outstanding Achievement Awards highlight exceptional professionals in construction who have succeeded in achieving remarkable results on the assignments they are committed to.”
The winning individuals will be honoured at a gala event scheduled for May 2014. More details will be available on a new awards website due to launch at the end of this month.
