The National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) has appointed Clive Dickin as its new CEO.

He has worked for more than 25 years in senior leadership roles in trade associations, many of them in the construction industry.

Dickin’s career started alongside Monty Python and Fawlty Towers star, John Cleese, in a B2B sales role at training film company Video Arts.

He then spent over a decade working within the plant, tool and building services sectors representative membership bodies, leaving for a period to lead the air ambulances as their national director.

More recently, Dickin has worked as commercial director for the National Federation of Builders.

His plans for NASC include offering the best support for those who wish to become members, promoting the independently vetted, high-quality industry-approved standards NASC sets, and boosting membership levels.

Dickin said: “I am very excited to get the opportunity to take charge of NASC – a superbly well-established, highly respected organisation that’s transparent, open, friendly and is “here to help” people build a successful scaffolding business, based on high quality, industry respected assurance standards.

“I am keen to start building the story of how people can – and should – join NASC, and prove it’s a progressive, open and supportive membership, that can truly aid scaffolding and access contractors. NASC is a modern, forward-thinking trade body that is here to help all businesses within the scaffolding and access sector with its recognised independently vetted standards that reduce risk and gain more business for members.”

NASC president, David Brown of IBN Scaffold Access, said: “We are excited to welcome Clive to the NASC. Clive’s experience and personality shone through during the recruitment process. With Clive’s excellent leadership abilities, the NASC is going to be in safe hands as we move forward.”

Dickin’s appointment means acting NASC managing director Dave Mosley will return to his role as managing director of the Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme and NASC Director of Training.
