Lendlease has appointed Michael Dyke to head up the part of its business formerly known as Bovis, Building reported.
Dyke, who is the National Grid’s director of UK construction, will become executive director of Lend Lease’s project management and construction business in the UK and across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
He fills a position which has been open since last summer, following the departure of Bovis chief executive Nick Pollard after a restructuring of the business.
Pollard left after the role of Bovis chief executive – which had reported back to the parent company in Australia – was replaced with a position that reported into Dan Labbard, the newly appointed Lend Lease EMEA chief executive.
Labbard said: “Michael brings with him vast strategic and large scale operational experience and I am delighted that he is joining the EMEA business. His appointment at this time plays a key part in bringing our regional construction platform together and aligns with our strategy to grow a construction business that is dynamic, efficient, and highly competitive.”
At National Grid, Dyke was responsible for running the client’s construction programme in the UK, one of the biggest construction programmes in the country.
Dyke, who has been involved in the industry for almost 25 years, began his career with Wimpey Construction before moving on to Balfour Beatty and then EDF Energy, Construction News reported.
He will join the firm at the start of July.
Dyke’s appointment caps a turbulent period for Bovis which was hard hit by the downturn in commercial work. The restructuring was followed by the announcement earlier this year that Lendlease would drop the Bovis name, one of contracting’s oldest and best known brands, dating back to the nineteenth century.
A great pity to lose a brand name that is recognised and trusted by the industry. It remains to be seen if the Lendlease name alone will bring in the enquiries.
