Morgan Sindall is to restart operations at its Kent precast plant from next month.
The decision follows an £8m order from FLO, the Ferrovial Agroman Laing O’Rourke joint venture responsible for delivering the Northern Line Extension to Battersea Power Station.
The Ridham-based facility manufactures bespoke concrete segments to tight tolerances which slot together to form tunnel rings.
The factory’s last major project was the production of ring segments for the 7.8km Lee Tunnel project in London, which required 7.8m diameter rings. The Lee Tunnel was completed in 2015.
The new order requires 3,280 concrete tunnel rings, which will be 5.2m in diameter and line 2.4km of twin tunnels. The Ridham team will be able to produce 70 tunnel rings a week, and will consist of 45 people working over two shifts.
David Hicks, Morgan Sindall’s senior operations manager at the Ridham facility, said: “It’s great to be remobilising the facility and recreating opportunities for the local community. We’re currently re-commissioning the factory, getting it ready for production ahead of the start-up date in July. We’re pleased that our capabilities here will help with the completion of key infrastructure upgrades in London.”
