A new mental health support framework has been launched by charity Mindflow.
The framework, known as the Mindflow Mental Health Charter, introduces an actionable and measurable standard for mental health provision on construction sites.
By registering, companies commit to 10 principles:
- A written mental health and wellbeing policy
- Clear ownership and governance
- Equal access to mental health support
- Psychological safety management
- Leadership training and support
- Team awareness and education
- Conflict resolution and fair practices
- Measurable positive impact
- Communication and stakeholder engagement
- Engagement with preventive services.
Mindflow, founded by Causeway Technologies, aims to address the high rates of poor mental health in the construction industry through the influence of football.
The charity’s CEO, Trevor Steven, is a former England and Everton player and has been Causeway’s mental health ambassador for construction for nearly five years.
Steven said: “With the Mindflow Charter, we’re setting clear standards. We want all construction companies to treat every worker’s mental health with the same seriousness as their physical safety. Because wellbeing isn’t optional – it’s essential.”
The charter has been supported by the mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, and the former shadow minister for mental health, Baroness Berger, who both attended an official launch event in Liverpool this week.
