Barnet Council has appointed McLaughlin & Harvey as the main contractor to build a new 9,000 sq m waste centre that will serve seven London boroughs.
The £33m Geron Way Waste Transfer Station project is part of the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme and is being built for the North London Waste Authority.
Works include piled foundations, building a steel frame superstructure and external landscaping.
The facility is aiming for a BREEAM Very Good certification and to “significantly minimise” the impact of operations on residents.

Councillor Alan Schneiderman, Barnet Council cabinet member for environment and climate change and Cricklewood ward member, added: “The new Waste Transfer Station, which will manage waste and recycling for Barnet and six other north London boroughs, features modern and environmentally friendly elements such as living roofs, as well as noise and odour controls.
“These are not only impressive but also vital to us, and the design supports our commitment to achieving the highest sustainability standards while enhancing biodiversity.”
Construction is scheduled to start in late September.
