McLaren has appointed Paul Woodhams to the newly created role of managing director for building safety and refurbishment.
The post will focus on growing a team specialising in building safety, regulatory compliance, complex building remodelling, recladding, passive and active fire protection upgrades, home interiors, and mechanical and electrical upgrades.
Woodhams joined McLaren in 2021 as operations director, where he has led complex and large-scale remediation programmes for residential and mixed-use estates.
These projects include the remediation of the Chalcots Estate in Camden, north London, where the contractor is replacing the dangerous cladding on four high-rise towers.
Before joining McLaren, Woodhams spent almost two decades at Balfour Beatty, where he held the roles of refurbishment director, pre-contract director, work-winning director and aviation framework director.
He will report to John Butten, managing director for regeneration.
Butten said: “Building safety and refurbishment is a growing market for our business, as developers seek to comply with the latest building regulations. Paul stepping into a managing director role focused on this sector underscores our commitment to deliver excellence and support our clients.
“Paul will oversee a growing team experienced in the intricacies of remediation programmes – oftentimes delivered in live environments and occupied buildings – which is dedicated to solving the most complex of challenges.”
Woodhams said: “As I am stepping into my new role I look forward to expanding our capabilities in building safety and refurbishment, continuing to build our team and invest in our talent. My focus will be on identifying opportunities in this sector and responding to our clients’ needs and requirements.”
