Sir Robert McAlpine has created a “listening lounge” at its Battersea Power Station project that allows workers to connect with mental health first aiders.
Located in a discrete area of the welfare facility on the site, complete with softened lighting and refreshments, the listening lounge runs twice a week from 9am until 12pm.
During these times, six of the contractor’s mental health first aiders work on a rota to provide a confidential service for workers.
“The mental health first aiders are trained to be active listeners, to ask mindful questions, and to be able to signpost workers to seek further mental health, financial, and social support if needed,” the company said.
All trade contractors on the project are promoting the initiative via their morning briefings and are allowing operatives time out of their day to visit the listening lounge without judgement. The campaign is also supported by signage and posters.
