A 70-year-old man working on a Cheshire construction site has died after an accident involving a digger.
The incident took place on a Taylor Wimpey site off Stoneley Avenue in Crewe just after 830am yesterday.
The man was taken to Leighton Hospital but later died.
A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said the force’s officers were investigating at the scene, along with the Health and Safety executive.
Taylor Wimpey chief executive, Pete Redfern, said: "It is with deep regret that we confirm that a sub-contractor at our Stoneley Park site in Crewe passed away this morning following a serious accident on site.
"We are shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic incident and all our thoughts are with the family and those affected, who are our priority at this very difficult time.
"We are assisting the police and the Health and Safety Executive with their investigations and will subsequently be conducting our own investigation to establish what happened."
