The newly created Lords Built Environment Committee has launched its first inquiry into the demand for new housing in the UK and how barriers to meet the demand can be overcome.

The cross-party committee, chaired by Baroness Neville-Rolfe, has been appointed to consider housing, planning, transport and infrastructure.

It will focus on the key factors shaping the type, tenure and quality of housing needed in the UK, as well as looking at skills challenges in the construction industry and some specific aspects of the planning system.
