Laing O’Rourke, Skanska and the Unity joint venture between Sir Robert McAlpine and VolkerFitzpatrick are all in the running for the £370m Solihull Interchange station.
The station, part of the HS2 rail project, is expected to create 1,000 construction jobs during the contract.
Work on the site, in a triangle between the M42, A45 and A452, has already involved the construction of modular bridges over the M42 and A446, as well as remodelling of the road network.
Arup has worked with HS2 to design the station to be net zero in operation and it will be the first in the world to achieve BREEAM Outstanding at the design stage.
Eco-friendly measures at the station will include a roof that captures and reuses rainwater, air source heat pumps, LED lighting, and natural daylight and ventilation.
The contract is set to be awarded in 2022.
