Construction firms including Laing O’Rourke and Mace have won recognition as two of construction’s top UK employers for school leavers.
Both firms were recognised by early career experts AllAboutSchoolLeavers’ sixth annual ranking of UK employers for school leavers, looking at the real-life experiences of apprentices and school leaver trainees from 100 UK organisations.
The results were unveiled last week at the School Leaver Awards 2018 at London’s Sheraton Grand Park Lane, at an event supported by Laing O’Rourke.
Laing O’Rourke won the award for Best Intermediate Apprenticeship, as well as being named the winner in the Top Employer – Construction category.
Meanwhile Mace picked up the award for Best School Leaver Programme.
Judges on the panel included:
- Jonathan Ledger, chief executive of the Global Skills Ledger;
- Sharon Stephens, head of member and business development, UK Chamber of Shipping;
- Steve Nash, chief executive of the Institute of the Motor Industry;
- Stephen Isherwood, chief executive of the Institute of Student Employers;
- Robert West, programme director, Creative and Cultural Skills;
- Nick Ellins, chief executive, Energy & Utility Skills;
- Amy Gough, director of operations, Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB);
- Suki Kalirai, chairman of the Institute of Apprenticeships; and
- Sue Hurst, head of schools outreach programmes, Civil Service.
