LABC has announced the final piece in its three-year skills programme with the launch of a BSc (Hons) degree in Public Service Building Control Surveying at Wolverhampton University.
The LABC skills initiative set out to identify the competencies of local authority building control staff, to standardise learning across the discipline and to introduce new specialist qualifications.
So far LABC has established a national framework for measuring the competency of building control professionals and a building control apprenticeship standard has been developed and rubber stamped, with support from CIOB, the University of Wolverhampton and the Institute of Fire Engineers.
Launch of the apprenticeship levy-funded Level 6 BSc degree completes a suite of new building control qualifications, including a level 3 certificate and levels 4 and 5 diplomas, developed by LABC in partnership with CIOB and Wolverhampton University.
According to LABC, the organisation has identified more than 1,000 level 6 surveyors which are being validated through an IFE backed assessment for working on higher risk projects.
LABC is also now in the final stages of developing specialist CIOB level 6 diplomas for enforcing regulations and standards, building control and safety in complex buildings, sports grounds and events.
