Kier has been appointed to British Airways’ new tier 1 contractor framework, supporting delivery of its Better Buildings programme.

The framework is initially for three years, with the option to extend by an additional two years.

It is primarily focused on British Airways’ asset portfolio at Heathrow, with the potential to deliver at other key locations across the UK.

The scope of work is expected to include:

  • Improvement works at London Heathrow Operations East and West bases, including aircraft stand refurbishments, such as lighting upgrades, road improvements, drainage and remedial works.
  • Hangar conversions, including reconfigurations of aircraft docking structures, power and infrastructure to accommodate new types of aircraft.
  • Nose-in facility and docking facility upgrades.
  • Associated infrastructure upgrades to individual technical blocks, including glazing and cladding replacement.
  • Cargo buildings, including roof, glazing and cladding upgrades.

The Better Buildings programme is designed to create fit-for-purpose and inspirational working environments; provide improved building resilience to support operations; develop a safe, sustainable and energy-efficient estate; and support other BA corporate initiatives, including entry into service for new aircraft types arriving from 2028/29.

Mandy Duncan, managing director of rail and aviation at Kier Infrastructure, said: “We are exceptionally pleased to be working with British Airways to support its Better Buildings programme and collaborative framework.

“As the portfolio covers the depth and breadth of what Kier has to offer, it really has been about bringing our Kier 360 approach in our offering to British Airways.

“We will be working with teams from across the group to deliver works as the portfolio develops. British Airways is a key client for us in the aviation space and there are very exciting times ahead.”
