In-administration Cleveland Bridge restarts production

Cleveland Bridge produced 24 massive steel girders that form part of the first bridges to be built on the HS2 project

Steel fabrication firm Cleveland Bridge, which fell into administration last month, is to restart production today (2 August) to support live projects.

The news came after administrator FRP held a progress meeting with key stakeholders including Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen, Sedgefield MP Paul Howell, and Darlington MP Peter Gibson, following its appointment on 22 July.

FRP has put Cleveland Bridge up for sale and is restarting production this week subject to formal agreement of terms with customers and finalisation of insurance arrangements.

Staff required to fulfil the production requirements will be contacted this week and asked to return to work, while the remaining staff will likely continue to be furloughed as part of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

Martyn Pullin, partner at FRP and joint administrator of Cleveland Bridge UK, said: “We are looking to restart production and continue to hold discussions with interested parties over the future of the business. We are working quickly and diligently to assess the viability of those approaches and will need to determine how they align with our objectives and duties as joint administrators.”
