Retail giant IKEA’s property arm has unveiled plans for a large mixed use scheme by the Olympic Park, including 1,200 new homes, Construction News reported.
Plans for Strand East, a major regeneration project just south of the Olympic Park in Stratford, have been revealed by LandProp, part of the Inter IKEA Group.
Architect Arc-ML has been enlisted to design the scheme, which includes homes, offices, community facilities and open public spaces. The plan also includes a 350 bedroom hotel and local shops, cafes and restaurants set within distinct zones linked by car free landscaped walkways.
LandProp is currently preparing a planning application, which is due to be submitted to the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation in early 2012, following public consultation.
Harald Müller, managing director of LandProp said: “We are hugely excited to be bringing forward these plans, we see Strand East as a place for families which contributes to the regeneration of Stratford and takes its place alongside the many neighbourhoods of London.
“The launch of Strand East today marks the first major investment for LandProp into the UK and we are continuing to look for other opportunities within London and the UK.”
The Strand East site covers 26 acres between Stratford High Street, the Three Mills Wall River and the River Lea waterways and LandProp also announced the completion of site assembly with the purchase of 9.34 acres from the Olympic Park Legacy Company to bring the majority of the site under single ownership.
Great move!
