The HSE has announced that Rebecca Emmet is replacing Martin Eson as a non-executive director on its board.

Emmett has experience in local government and the public sector and is currently the deputy chief executive at Basingstoke and Deane Council.

She has led a range of frontline services in and around London, including roles at the Croydon, Southwark, and Hackney councils, where she was responsible for leading their regulatory teams to support the delivery of the Olympic Park and 2012 Olympic Games.

Board replacement

Emmet has a degree in environmental science and geology from Portsmouth University and started her career as a consultant working for WSP, undertaking geotechnical and contamination ground investigations. She replaces Martin Eson, who left the board in March 2026.

During this latest round of recruitment to the HSE board, Debbie Gillatt was also reappointed as a non-executive director for a further five years.
