Highways worker killed in A30 multi-vehicle crash

A worker has been killed following a serious collision involving two highways maintenance vehicles and a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) on the A30 near Launceston, Cornwall.

Devon and Cornwall Police said that the HGV driver, a 51-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Police were called on Sunday (24 November) at around 7.30am to the westbound carriageway just before the Pennygillam off slip.

The worker, a man in his 50s from one of the highway maintenance vehicles, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, but died yesterday (Sunday) evening.

The police said his next of kin were informed and will be supported by specialist officers.

Another occupant of the highway maintenance vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to hospital.

The A30 was closed for several hours while an investigation and recovery work was undertaken at the scene.

Police asked that anyone with relevant information or dash-cam footage relating to this accident contact them.
