Hull-based contractor Hall Construction Group filed for administration this week after hitting financial difficulties.
The family-owned company, which employs around 110 people, filed to appoint an administrator just months after posting a loss of more than £2m in its annual accounts.
The firm was established more than 100 years ago and has been involved with a number of projects such as schools, houses and offices. The group also includes separate companies, Hall Renewables and Hall Construction, which it is believed also filed for administration earlier this week.
The group’s website has also been shut down.
Signs the company was in trouble emerged last year when Hall posted a £2.2m loss for 2015.
2016 proved a tough year for many regional and specialist construction companies with a number of them going under or running into difficulties, including Cardy Construction and conservation specialist William Anelay.
