Fit-out firm Lucas has become the official Clean Air Construction Partner of national lung charity Asthma + Lung UK.

The charity has recently rebranded following the merger of Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation.

Lucas has worked with BLF for a number of years after its paint laboratory started to develop a clean-air coating to extract pollutants from the surrounding atmosphere.

The company has also been carrying out lung testing on sites across London and offering health advice to construction workers with the help of the BLF.

Sarah Woolnough, chief executive of Asthma + Lung UK, said: “We’re delighted to be relaunching our partnership with Lucas to build on the valuable work we’ve already achieved together and to shine a light on the devastating impact that toxic air can have on people’s lives and lungs.

“We’ll continue to support Lucas employees with lung testing and tailored health advice so they can help protect themselves against the effects of high air pollution.

“The money raised through this corporate partnership will help fund our vital life-saving research. For too long lung conditions have not been taken as seriously as other major medical conditions even though lung disease is the third biggest killer in the UK.”

Danny Lucas, executive chairman and managing director of Lucas, said: “It is hugely important to improve air quality in our environment. Lucas is fully supportive of the campaigns of Asthma + Lung UK and we are privileged to be raising awareness of this important issue with them within the construction industry.”
