Chartered building surveyor Silverstone Building Consultancy has been appointed to oversee the construction of what could be the first Passivhaus hotel in the UK.

Subject to planning approval, the development will involve demolition of an existing 20-bed hotel and building a new 1,795 sq m facility. It would feature an expanded restaurant and bar on the ground floor.

It has been designed by architecture firm Bowman Riley.

Buildings must follow strict energy-efficient design standards to achieve the Passivhaus international energy performance standard.

In 2022, Hotel Marcel became the first Passivhaus hotel to open in the US.

If planning approval is granted, construction of the hotel is planned for late Spring 2024.
