A huge blaze broke out last night at Camden music venue Koko, which was undergoing a £20m refurbishment.
The London Fire Brigade said that a third of the venue’s roof was on fire at one point, after fire broke out at around 9pm on Monday.
The building, previously known as the Camden Palace and the Camden Hippodrome, dates back to 1900.
In 2018, main contractor Od Projects announced that it had secured a role as main contractor to refurbish the existing 1,500-capacity venue and create a music-focused members club including restaurants, bars, retail, recording studios and a terrace bar. The project also involves the full refurbishment of the adjoining Hope & Anchor pub.
Work started in September 2018 and was due to finish early this year.
Station commander Jon Lewis, who was at the scene said: "Firefighters quick action and hard work in the early stages meant the fire was contained to the roof and saved the rest of the building. Fire crews will remain at the scene throughout the morning."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Od Projects has been contacted for comment.
