There were honours for experts in nuclear energy and infrastructure in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, but few were awarded to those in construction. Jon O’Neill, managing director of the Fire Protection Association, who has been critical of the government’s stance in recent days in the aftermath of the Grenfell Fire, received an OBE.
CBE
The architect Amanda Levete, one half of the Future Systems partnership that built the Media Centre at Lords, was awarded CBE for services to architecture.
Also receiving a CBE was Alison Munro, managing director of Phase 2 HS2, for services to the rail industry. Phase 2 of the line is from the West Midlands to Leeds and Manchester. Previous to that Munro was a director in the Department for Transport, responsible for strategic roads policy, including developing a major motorway investment programme, and longer-term planning of national networks.
Those involved in the EDF Hinkley point deal were honoured with CBEs. Humphrey Cadoux-Hudson, manager director of EDF Energy’s Nuclear New Build Generation Company and Hugo Robson, chief negotiator, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy were both honoured for services to secure low carbon electricity.
OBE
Jon O’Neill managing director of the Fire Protection Association was awarded OBE for services to fire safety.
There was an OBE for Linda Miller, project manager, Crossrail, for services to engineering and to promoting gender equality.
A number of housing association chiefs also picked up OBEs. Tony Stacey, chief executive of South Yorkshire housing association and chairman of the Placeshapers Group, and Chan Kataria, group chief executive of the East Midlands Housing Group, were given their honours for services to housing.
MBE
Considerate Construction Scheme executive chairman, Isabel Martinson was awarded an MBE for services to business.
Rising architectural star Asif Khan received an MBE for services to architecture. Also receiving an MBE was Thomas Mayberry, for services to heritage and Neil May a senior research fellow UCL and director, Sustainable Traditional Building Alliance for services to energy efficiency in buildings and communities.
