If you’re an early career professional or a prospective entrant to the industry with a good idea to improve an aspect of construction and the built environment, the European Commission is inviting you to enter its video competition.
The “Build Europe with us” project is designed to stimulate the uptake of construction-related studies and careers as well as to promote the image of the sector among the younger generation.
It is being run by Belgian PR company Cecoforma on behalf of the European Commission Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs
Entrants aged 15-30 who are either studying or working in construction-related fields can upload a two-minute video outlining their projects and innovative ideas on the website ec.europa.eu/growth/construction-video-competition.
The competition will open on 10 March and close on 18 May 2015.
A jury will evaluate the projects based on their potential to attract new talent to the sector, their innovation potential, and the likelihood that they could be put into practice.
The videos should also make a “contribution to achieving the European goals in terms of sustainable construction and/or the competitiveness of the sector”.
Examples of ideas given in the promotional material include using recycled material to manufacture new building products; creating user-friendly devices to monitor and control energy consumption in the home; or a new app that would allow you to calculate the envionmental impact of a building on your smartphone.
There are two categories in the competition: “apprentices” aged 15-20, who can either be already in the industry or participating via classroom project; and “masters” aged 18-30, who might be still studying construction or have started their careers. The top two entries in each category will be awarded a prize.
All videos should be in English or with English subtitles.
