A team from Costain climbed the three highest peaks in the UK in 20 hours and 1 minute to finish first in this year’s COINS 3 Peaks Challenge.
The event saw forty firms from the construction industry take part with 22 finishing in under 24 hours. Teams from Kier, Taylor Wimpey and BAM were amongst those scaling Ben Nevis (1,344m) in Scotland, Scafell Pike (978m) in England, and Snowdon ( 1,085m) in Wales earlier this month in some of the worst weather conditions in the event’s nine year history.
The event raised £230,000 for the COINS Foundation Charity. The results are below.
Hi Simon – the COINS 3 Peaks Challenge actually covers the 3 highest mountains in Scotland/England and Wales – in Scotland – Ben Nevis, in England – Scafell and the highest in Wales is Snowdon. If you feel like taking the challenge in 2012 we would be delighted to hear from you – you need a team of 4 walkers and 2 drivers – it is a great experience!
Hi Steve,
Feel free to contact me, I organise the event for COINS. Happy to give you advice and perhaps you will partake in the industry COINS 3 Peaks next year!
Simon – indeed the Scottish highest mountains beat England and Wales. But I think we’ll leave Braeriach in the wilderness, best that way. We’ll stick to the UK 3 Peaks.
Well done to all that took the challenge.

The three highest peaks in the UK are Ben Nevis, Ben Macdui and Braeriach at 1344, 1309 and 1296 metres respectively.
Well done to all who took part. An amazing achievement to raise so much money and get so many teams through within the 24 hours.
I am driver support for a company who are putting out 3 teams (also in aid of charity) in July. I would be very keen to speak to an organiser from one of the teams about routes etc. We have done a lot of research to establish what we believe to be the best routes but are still using up a lot of time on the road.
