Costain is to move its technology centre to a new, expanded facility in north Somerset, as the firm continues to push its smart infrastructure ambitions.
By the end of the year, 150 Costain employees will have relocated from Yatton to the Weston Gateway Business Park near Worle, just off the M5.
Costain acquired the current Yatton technology facility in 2016 with an initial focus on highways, providing technology solutions such as motorway signage, signalling and CCTV systems.
The company has since broadened its activities and is now providing technology solutions to clients across all its operations in water, transportation and energy.
Meanwhile, the contractor has won additional technology contracts including the M6 J21a-26 Smart Motorway contract and Motorway Incident Detection and Automated Signalling (MIDAS) technology systems contract for Highways England.
Andrew Wyllie, Costain’s chief executive said: "The further expansion of our technology capability through this enlarged Group-wide facility, is another important step towards establishing Costain as the UK’s leading smart infrastructure company."
