Beard Construction is partnering Abingdon and Witney College to offer on-site work experience to students in Oxford.

The contractor will support the full student cohort for the duration of their two-year T-Level in design, surveying and planning for construction.

The partnership will see Beard colleagues provide hands-on opportunities for students to join them on construction sites across Oxfordshire, including the RAAC remediation project at the college’s Witney Campus.

Dean Averies, director at Beard’s Oxford office, said: “We’re passionate about developing the next generation of construction professionals at Beard, and partnering with Abingdon and Witney College on their construction course means we can directly engage and support future talent.

“We are looking forward to working alongside the college’s colleagues to deliver training and opportunities in a variety of ways to inspire young talent and equip them with the practical skills and personal confidence to build rewarding careers in construction.”

Students will be invited to meet the Beard team and join a culture and values talk where they will have the opportunity to discuss their career aspirations and perceptions of the industry.

Beard plans to host regular breakfast meetings with the students, led by Averies and other senior colleagues, to offer ongoing support and wider engagement opportunities.

Neil Benjamin-Miller, head of faculty for construction at Abingdon and Witney College, said: “Beard’s partnership will give our students invaluable real-world experience and industry insight, bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional practice.

“This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity to prepare our students for successful careers in the construction sector.”
