Developers are planning the construction of what could become the largest film studios complex in the UK.
The £430m Hertswood Studios project near the A1 in Hertfordshire would involve the construction of 21 separate sound stages, as well as supporting workshops, offices and a hotel for actors and crew.
The complex would sit alongside Sky Studios Elstree, currently being built by BAM, creating the UK’s first cluster of studios. Its construction has already received backing from the Department of International Trade (DIT) and the British Film Commission.
If the project is approved by Hertsmere Borough Council, work could start in 2023.
Iain Keys, partner in fund management at Bidwells, said: “With approximately three-quarters of the UK’s film industry based in and around London, investors and companies will benefit from a location that is part of the UK’s biggest film and TV cluster – making it easy to attract and retain talent.
“Looking ahead, we plan on working closely with the forward-thinking Hertsmere Borough Council to deliver this scheme and progress with consulting the local communities that reside in the area and build on the incredibly rich film heritage of Elstree.”
