Mace Consult, Hochtieff, Turner & Townsend and Unipart have been appointed to the delivery partner team helping Rolls-Royce build nuclear power plants with small modular reactor (SMRs).

They will join Virginia-headquartered engineer Amentum, which Rolls-Royce has announced as delivery partner leader.

SMRs are smaller, scalable, factory-built nuclear power plants that can be deployed for a range of applications.

Rolls-Royce SMR will first deliver the technology at Wylfa in the UK and at Temelín in the Czech Republic.

At Wylfa, Rolls-Royce SMR has been picked as the preferred bidder by the nuclear arm of Great British Energy to build three units that will deliver up to 1.5GW of low-carbon energy to the grid.

“Around the world, the pressing need to generate more low-carbon energy is more acute than ever,” said Mace Consult CEO Davendra Dabasia

“We’re incredibly proud to be part of Amentum’s delivery partner team, with our role serving as a signal of our track record not only in the nuclear industry, but as a leading major programme delivery consultant around the world.”

Hochtief CEO Juan Santamaría said: “The Rolls-Royce SMR programme is a landmark for the global energy transition and a defining moment for Hochtief.”

“The Amentum Rolls-Royce SMR collaboration advances the deployment of this transformational technology, a critical enabler in strengthening energy security in the UK and continental Europe,” added John Heller, CEO of Amentum.
