Social landlord and Homes England strategic partner Clarion has been awarded £26m of government funding to build affordable housing as demand increases.
The funding is channelled through Homes England’s latest £2bn bridge funding programme. The government agency has £9.23bn of cash to deliver at least 100,000 affordable homes outside of London by the end of March 2029.
Funding through the bridge programme has already supported Clarion schemes across the country, including the Rowntree’s Factory in York, where the social landlord delivered 279 apartments at the historic site.
In Sherford, outside Plymouth, Clarion is working with Vistry to build more than 1,200 homes in the latest phases of a new 5,500-home scheme with schools, retail and green spaces.
Richard Cook, chief development officer at Clarion Housing Group, said: “We welcome this funding from Homes England and the opportunity it provides to keep building at pace ahead of the new Affordable Homes Programme.
“As the UK’s largest social landlord, we are proud of the progress we made last year, building over 1,700 homes – the vast majority being social homes. This investment will help us build on that success and deliver the homes families across the country so desperately need.”
