CITB-ConstructionSkills has announced changes to the Training Grant Scheme for 2011-12 which widen the scope for claiming grants but will impose a more structured approach to employer training, explains Tony Wilson, MD of Helsman Services, a specialist construction training provider.
Helman explains: “The changes reflect a budget surplus at CITB/CS, plus a more forward-thinking approach to modern methods of training, explains construction training specialist.
Key changes are more days that can be claimed for direct employees, and alterations in the way that Labour Only Sub-Contractors are claimed for.
Additionally, any training that takes less than three hours can now be claimed for. Employers will now be able to put together a series of shorter sessions, making up a modular training programme. Also, E-Learning will in future be grant-aided, as long as the programmes pass a set of parameters, says Wilson.
CITB/CS has also announced bonus arrangements for organisations that are in-scope.
For 2011-2012, and for the following two years, they will receive a 12% increase on the existing Supplemental Grant of 10%.
